no breaks, commercial or otherwise….

Finally today I had the rendezvous with the first showers of the season. The news (bad or good is left to your interpretation) is that the showers will only increase in intensity and frequency as monsoons sweep mumbai. That for a guy slogging his ass off in the godowns and sales routes simply translatesĀ  into leaving home in the morning with waist high water, stading among the tins and pails which smell, well like paint (what else) with rain lashing out in all fury on the asbestos rooftop, coming back home in the evening drenched in rain from head to toe, waiting for the dinner to arrive and praying its atleast only semi cold and finally going to sleep worrying about next sales peak, the CD break and the OD dealer.

Life here is going on so fast that most of the time I dont even have a moment to look back and retrospect on the happenings of the day/week. With 6 days a week actually translating into 6.5 days a week ( I get up late on sunday so that extra 0.5 day), not much time is left for brooding over past or future. Whatever is present is what matters, rest is all theory which has no place in the sales market.

My respect for mumbai has gone down a couple of notches courtesy the ill mannered shop owners. it seems to me that they are actually some out of work wrestlers from WWE, who are just looking for a pretext to pick up a fight with you. Since morning I have had arguments with grocery store owner, the guy who presses my clothes, the hardware store owner and the spencer clearing guy. With already enough problems of my own to cater to, I am seriously looking forward to avoid these throughly irritating encounters but to no avail so far.

Staying in Mumbai, away from the family makes you realise how lonely you are. The sheer enormity and indifference of the city can shatter your existence to pieces if you dont manage to keep that straight face. I guess I am doing OK so far butĀ then there are times when I stare out of the window at 12 in night, searching and scanning the mumbai skyline for that one person whom I could call up at this ungodly time.

rishtey toh nahi rishton ki parchaayiyaan mile
yeh kaisi bheed bass yahaan tanhaayiyaan mile
